Sheepish in Sicily.....

Funny.... At home in WNY, weeks and months go by and we never think of sheep.  Here in Sicily, they are part of our everyday life.  We drove down the mountain yesterday to go to the store for provisions, and caught up to a rather large flock also heading down the mountain.  The shepherd was in the little SUV, guiding both sheep and dogs by honking his horn.....

The flock took up the entire width of the narrow road.  Our menagerie, which now included our car and of course a little black car behind us, encountered a yellow car coming up the hill.  The shepherd beeped commands and the sheep cleared a path.....

Once the yellow car cleared through, the black car (a black sheep.... a wolf in sheep's clothing...?) behind us couldn't stand to wait any longer and passed us on the left.  Not being sure of Sicilian car/sheep highway etiquette, we gave way.....

Taking our cue from the black car, we eventually made our way past the shepherd and his flock.....

Shortly after clearing the flock, we met two sheep dogs lying in the road.  These two dogs manage a different flock, so had no interest in that which was approaching.....

So we come to Sicily for lessons in managing the flock.....
