We didn't think we would travel to Italy this winter, but the siren song of Sicily (how about that for alliteration ?) was too strong. Our planning started late this fall, but since we had decided to revisit so many of our favorite places, the process was much easier than in past years. Once again, however, the most difficult obstacle was making certain we had all of our prescription medicines for the 8 week period...ah, the joys of dealing with insurance and mail-order companies....
Our first stop was a layover in New York City for a couple of nights to visit Mike, Chelsea, and our grandpuppy, Compass.

When we arrived on Saturday, we went to a wonderful wine auction at Marea (chef Michael White...Michelin stars !)...the wine and food were amazing. We didn't purchase any wine, but you can bet that Mike and Chelsea did ! That night we had to rally to go to dinner at La Masseria where our friend Ivanhoe is a waiter. His mother and brother still live in one of the small towns in Sicily that we'll visit, so we will definitely see them when we are there...la famiglia !
